Overview

AXEDO Yard Gully at Bell Contracting Site.

Location: Pilgrims Hatch, Brentwood, Essex

Customer: S.P. Bardwell

Project: Linglewoods Housing Development

The Challenge

S.P. Bardwell, a long-standing and highly experienced building, civil engineering and groundworks contractor, required a reliable drainage system supply partner for the construction of 8 large-scale houses on the Linglewoods development site. They needed competitive pricing, expert technical support, and, critically, guaranteed fast delivery to adhere to a strict site schedule.

JDP's Solution

JDP provided a full-service package: technical support (detailed take-off and manhole schedule), highly competitive pricing, and dedicated account management throughout the project. The solution focused on supplying high-quality products, including U3 pipe and Axedo chambers, backed by the promise of next-day delivery.

The Result

JDP's reliable service and logistics enabled S.P. Bardwell to maintain an efficient and organised site schedule. The combination of "really good quality products" and the superb speed of next-day delivery was highlighted by the customer as a key factor in the smooth running of the project.

About the Project

The Linglewoods development is situated in Pilgrims Hatch, a sought-after semi-rural village on the northern edge of Brentwood, Essex. The area is popular with commuters, benefiting from proximity to the M25 and the Elizabeth Line link at Brentwood Station.

S.P. Bardwell’s project involved the groundworks and civils for the construction of eight substantial, large-scale residential dwellings for a private developer. This kind of executive housing development demands high-quality construction standards and reliable supply chains to meet project timelines.

The groundworks commenced in early October, with S.P. Bardwell needing to rapidly establish a trusted relationship with a supply partner. The core requirement was to source all materials (including pipework, chambers, and covers) for the required foul and surface water drainage systems. The contractor was specifically looking for a supplier known for:

  1. Industry expertise to assist with accurate material take-offs.
  2. Competitive pricing on quality, compliant products.
  3. Efficient logistics, crucially offering rapid delivery to keep the site schedule on track.

S.P. Bardwell, who are known for their commitment to quality, approached JDP due to our strong reputation in the civils and drainage industry and history of reliability.

How were JDP Involved?

JDP was brought into the project two weeks after the start date. Our involvement went beyond simply providing a quote; we offered a full-service solution to ensure maximum efficiency for S.P. Bardwell. This included:

  • Technical Take-Off: Cat Parkinson from the JDP Technical Team was instrumental, completing a detailed take-off from the supplied drawings and generating a precise manhole schedule.
  • Competitive Pricing: Josh Samson provided a highly competitive quote for the comprehensive package of materials.
  • Dedicated Account Management: April Golding-Brodie maintained regular contact, ensuring seamless communication and that all of the customer's needs were met throughout the process.

Beyond our technical expertise and dedication to excellent customer service, what sets JDP apart is our ability to provide our flagship ULTRA3 and AXEDO drainage systems.

Maximising Installation Efficiency and Durability

The success of this Linglewoods project relied on the provision of a fully compliant, integrated drainage system. JDP ensured S.P. Bardwell received not only competitive pricing but also products chosen for their ease of installation and long-term durability, crucial factors for maintaining groundworks pace.

ULTRA3 Drainage Pipes & Fittings

Stacks of ULTRA-3 pipes

JDP supplied a total of 888 meters of ULTRA3 drainage pipe, ranging in diameter from 110mm to 225mm. This robust, lightweight drainage solution, manufactured with at least 40% recycled content, offers exceptional performance and environmental benefits, including:

  • Ease of Handling

The lightweight nature of the pipe makes transportation around site, lifting, and setting into trenches quicker and safer than traditional alternatives, directly reducing installation time.

  • Compliant Connection

ULTRA3 pipes feature robust seals, ensuring swift and watertight jointing. This reliability minimises the risk of future infiltration issues and speeds up the sign-off process.

AXEDO® Inspection Chambers

For access points, 48 sets of AXEDO inspection chamber bases and risers were supplied in both 450mm and 600mm diameters. The AXEDO system provides:

  • Modular Flexibility

Its structured design allows for quick assembly and height adjustment on-site, accommodating varying ground levels without extensive benching or brickwork, saving significant labour hours.

  • Reduced Excavation

Being a complete unit, the AXEDO base simplifies installation, requiring less time and smaller working areas in the trench compared to constructing traditional manholes from scratch.

Durable Access Covers

An access cover installed on an AXEDO chamber.

To complete the drainage system, JDP supplied 59 high-quality access covers rated for pedestrian and vehicular traffic:

  • B125 Covers (450mm)

Primarily used for driveways and pedestrian areas, these covers meet the required load rating while offering a neat, unobtrusive finish for the private residential development.

  • D400 Covers (600mm)

Designated for areas subject to regular road traffic, these robust covers guarantee the structural integrity and long-term safety of the access points beneath public highways or shared access roads.

By supplying these integrated, high-specification products, JDP ensured S.P. Bardwell could move quickly from material delivery to installation, maintaining the fast-paced schedule required for the eight-home Linglewoods development.

  • Product Quality S.P. Bardwell was extremely satisfied with the "really good quality products" they received, confirming their confidence in JDP's materials for the long-term success of the development.
  • Straightforward ProcessThe project was described as "quite a straightforward process" due to JDP's upfront technical support and reliable logistics.

Building Strong Partnerships

JDP's collaborative approach and commitment to exceeding client expectations continue to build a strong and valued working relationship with S.P. Bardwell.

Adam Batchelor, Buyer at S.P. Bardwell, had the following to say about working with JDP:

When I became the buyer at S.P. Bardwell, I wanted to bring in suppliers who hadn’t supplied us. April came in to see me, introducing the company along with the products JDP have to offer. The products looked like they were very good quality, and one factor that did get my attention was the next-day delivery. All in all, I was really pleased with the service that April and JDP had offered me for this site and have always been at the end of the phone when needed.

April Golding-Brodie, JDP Sales Executive, shared her perspective on the successful partnership:

When I met with S.P. Bardwell, we had a chat about our products and services, and following this, they sent over their first enquiry – to complete a take-off for 8 plots. This was sent to technical for their support, and Josh provided the quote to the customer. It was a plain sailing process. I have regular contact with the customer, working closely to meet their needs. I have been on site to see the products being installed, and the team on site were happy with the products and installation. To be able to provide a site next day was an absolute win!
