RAINBOX

Interlocking crate system that reduces the chance of flooding.

Specially Designed Flood Management System

As geocellular crates, RAINBOX® systems act as an underground reservoir to collect water through drainage systems, from storms and persistent rain, to prevent flooding.

In areas of development, this function helps to counteract the loss of permeable ground that would have originally soaked up the rainwater naturally. The collected water is then dispersed in one of two ways, depending on whether the crates are installed in an attenuation system or a soakaway system.

Operating Principles

RAINBOX crates can be used to improve surface water drainage and prevent flooding in both soakaway and attenuation systems, with only minor changes to the installation process.

Rainbox Attenuation Scene.

Attenuation

For an attenuation installation, the RAINBOX tank structure is first wrapped in an impermeable geomembrane to make it watertight and then in a permeable, non-woven geotextile protection fleece to protect it from material intrusion. Rainwater is fed directly into the tank via an inlet pipe, where it is temporarily stored to allow for a controlled discharge towards an existing watercourse or sewer network through an outlet pipe. This can be regulated with the addition of a flow control device downstream from the outlet.

Rainbox Soakaway Scene.

Soakaway

For a soakaway installation, the RAINBOX tank structure is wrapped in a permeable, non-woven geotextile to allow the infiltration of groundwater while preventing any intrusion of material, especially from backfill. Rainwater then infiltrates into the tank through the ground or can be fed directly through an inlet pipe from other surface water drainage systems. The structure temporarily stores the excess water and gradually releases it back into the surrounding soil over time.

Unique Sedimentation Channel

The optional sedimentation channel designed for the RAINBOX C+ crate provides an easy and effective way to maintain the tank structure and ensure its longevity. Its straightforward design allows it to fit perfectly within the internal framework of the crate and click into place smoothly.

This channel prevents unwanted debris, silt, or foreign objects from entering the cellular structure and causing damage or silt compaction. By containing the silt, it makes cleaning the tank significantly easier.

JDP Technical Support

JDP has a complete range of geocellular crates for harvesting or attenuating rainfall, but, most importantly, we can also design the right solution for your needs. We have designed solutions ranging from multi-layer to flat and rectangular to complex shapes to allow for various ground conditions.

The JDP Technical Support team can provide hydraulic and structural calculations for each project to develop a customised design. Using the latest industry-standard software, the team offers a variety of bespoke solutions using pre-formatted in-house calculators created specifically to assist in modifying a tank’s standard design. We utilise AutoCAD as our design tool to draft and detail amendments to tank footprints, depths, or when utilising the RAINBOX C+ unique sedimentation channel insert to aid tank longevity. All proposed changes are supported by relevant calculations, documentation, and CAD drawings.

JDP’s experienced team can help you with planning and design, through to supply and installation, with in-depth product and application expertise to ensure you have the right solution for your project.

Take a look at our Technical Support page for more information on what the team can do for you!
